A new program from the Canadian Red Cross will connect volunteers with seniors 65+.
Connection NB will pair volunteers with seniors to assist them in a variety of ways.
“What our service will consist of is going into the senior’s home, sitting down having home visits, talking to them, listening to them, which is pretty much the most important element to this,” Carol Lynn Gamblin, community coordinator for Connection NB.
“(As well), the idea is we would be problem-solving around things that would improve their quality of life,” Gamblin said.
The program will have a database, which will help volunteers connect seniors with local services and helping professionals.
“It will have many different services, the obvious ones, social development, community mental health, but also some less obvious ones,” mentioned Gamblin.
The program will launch as a pilot project in January 2022 in Saint John, Saint Andrews, Moncton, and Miramichi.
Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer can apply online.
