The Dominion Park Community Association has named J.D. Irving, Limited (JDI) as its first corporate sponsor.
It comes after JDI contributed $100,000 towards the development of phase one of the park revitalization project.
“We are happy to support our friends and neighbours on the Westside by helping revitalize this important local asset,” said Jim Irving, co-CEO of JDI, in a statement.
“As we’ve done with the Irving Nature Park and Children’s Forest, we want to keep working to enhance outdoor recreation options here in Saint John, where we live and work,” added Irving.
On November 1, city staff will present to Common Council the park’s revised vision and budget which is estimated at $1 million.
“We’ve (resized) the structure to support the services that we want to provide to the community, but also make it realistic for a budget to be able to break ground,” said Derek Chaisson, president of the Dominion Park Community Association.
Chaisson added after the contribution from JDI, and $6,500 raised through community support, the project will be within $50,000 from finalizing phase one.
Meantime, Common Council will consider an $865,000 investment through its 2022 capital budget later this year.
The Dominion Park Community Association hopes to break ground in spring 2022.
