Officials with Canadian Blood Services are concerned about the current situation in New Brunswick when it comes to COVID-19.
Rising case numbers and fewer hospital beds have both regional health authorities putting more restrictions in place.
Peter MacDonald, director of donor relations for Atlantic Canada, said increasing case numbers and a bigger need for contact tracing could translate to more “no-shows” or cancellations of blood donor appointments.
“We continue, you know, business as usual but, we’re mindful that there could be some impact in the coming weeks to our attendance levels in New Brunswick,” MacDonald said.
MacDonald said during COVID, blood donation is by appointment only, no walk-ins are allowed.
He noted the post-donation snacks available, just offered in a grab-and-go format adding they don’t want the cookies and juice “to be lonely.”
