Liberal incumbent Jenica Atwin has been re-elected in the riding of Fredericton.
Elections Canada firmed up the results Wednesday morning once the remaining special ballot votes were counted.
Preliminary results show Atwin with 16,316 votes (37 per cent), just over 500 ahead of Conservative candidate Andrea Johnson, who received 35.9 per cent of the vote.
Green Party candidate Nicole O’Byrne placed third with 5,666 votes (12.9 per cent).
Atwin was elected in the 2019 federal election under the Green banner — the first Green MP east of British Columbia at the time. She then crossed the floor to the Liberals this past June.
Speaking with reporters on election night Monday, Atwin said she believed the move affected voting in a “big way,” but she hoped it led to a positive outcome.
Special ballots are still being counted in other New Brunswick ridings.
