As we enter the fall harvest period, most farmers in the province have enjoyed a great growing season according to the New Brunswick Agricultural Alliance.
President Lisa Ashworth says this year was a far cry from the severe drought experienced over the last couple of summers.
“Plants love that combination of heat and moisture that we were lucky enough to have here… in all of the Maritime Provinces actually this summer. We had some above-average temperatures but we also had timely rainfalls in most areas.”
Ashworth says some farmers don’t have enough storage space for forage crops which she adds is a great problem to have.
Farmers aren’t “counting their chickens” just yet noting how more good weather is needed as crops like potatoes come out of the ground.
She adds a bumper crop won’t matter if we have a wet fall since it would make harvesting more difficult.
