CUPE New Brunswick is extending its strike vote after hundreds of workers were omitted from the list of eligible voters.
In a Facebook post, the union claimed the list provided by the Government of New Brunswick has denied many members their right to vote.
The strike vote began last Tuesday after several failed attempts to reach an agreement with the Higgs government. More than 22,000 employees are affected in different sectors including education, social development, justice and corrections, and transportation and tourism.
“Over 92% of members have already voted. However, one voted denied is one vote too many, and that needs to be resolved,” the social media post reads.
A list of names left off the list has been compiled and sent to the government, according to the post.
“Every eligible worker must have their democratic right to vote respected, in a timely manner,” states the post signed by the CUPE centralized Bargaining Team.
Although voting was scheduled to end last Saturday, members in Locals 1190, 1251, 1418,1253 and 2745 who were not given the chance to vote or did not take the opportunity, will be able to vote this Friday and Saturday.
