The St. Joseph’s Hospital Breast Health Trust Fund is the latest recipient of the 100 Women Who Care of Greater Saint John.
The organization awarded $25,000 following the group’s latest virtual meeting on Tuesday night.
More than 200 members also heard pitches from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Saint John and Deaf and Hard of Hearing New Brunswick Services before voting for the St. Joe’s program.
Since they formed in 2013, the 100 Women Who Care of Greater Saint John has donated $827,400 to 34 local charities.
Brandi McHarg, chair of the Saint John Suicide Prevention Committee, provided an update on how they used their $25,700 donation from June’s meeting of the 100 Women Who Care of Greater Saint John.
“We have been able to successfully schedule two Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Trainings and intend to use these funds to continue to offer this training on a regular basis. We are hosting a Stomping out Stigma walk/run in September to raise awareness about Suicide Prevention and to remind folks that they are not alone. Thanks to your donations we have been able to secure speakers for this event and purchase materials for kits to give to each participant.
We are also planning to use the funding for a support group specific to Survivors of Suicide loss. We will be working with the Compassionate Care Grief Centre and providing funding for this group which will begin in October. We have also decided to host an event in October in which we will invite community members to come together to have a strategic planning session in which we plan for Suicide Prevention initiatives. The funding will help us to host such an event and to have the ability to put into plan the initiatives resulting from this session,” McHarg said.
The 100 Women Who Care of Greater Saint John will meet again via Zoom on Tuesday, December 7, 2021.
And the winner is….St. Joseph's Breast Health Program Trust Fund!!!!Congratulations!!
