Public Health has announced the Moderna vaccine is available starting today through the regional health authorities for children 12 years old and up.
Previously, only the Pfizer vaccine had been approved for youth between 12 and 18.
Meantime, New Brunswick reported just three new cases of COVID-19 today and 26 new recoveries from the virus.
The Moncton region has one case under investigation involving someone in their 20s.
The Fredericton area has two travel-related cases of individuals who are 19 and under.
Three people are in hospital including one in the intensive care unit.
The province’s active case count has fallen to 137.
Vaccination rates have inched upward since yesterday with the percentage of eligible New Brunswickers fully vaccinated now at 75.2 and those with one vaccine dose at 84.6.
“Each dose of vaccine administered represents another degree of protection for that individual as well as for their family, friends and community,” said Health Minister Dorothy Shephard. “Our high and increasing level of vaccination is the main reason our hospitalization numbers remain low.”
