Cyclists are eager to try a new set of mountain bike trails that opened at Rockwood Park this week.
According to a news release from the City of Saint John, the Saint John Cycling Club announced the opening of the pathways off the old ski hill area near Sandy Point Road this week.
“Rockwood Park is a great place for mountain biking in New Brunswick,” said Dean Price, the vice president of the Saint John Cycling Club. “The new trails offer a fun biking experience through the old ski hill area.”
The expansion adds an extra two kilometres of bike trails to the existing 56 kilometres of trails at the park. The city says the trails were built by Nova Scotia-based company Shoreline Dirtworks, both of which meet International Mountain Bike Association standards.
The idea for the Enduro Park trails came about years ago as a shared vision with the cycling club and the city. Funding came from private and corporate donors, as well as from the Government of New Brunswick, the City of Saint John and the City of Saint John Land for Public Purpose Grant.
It’s all part of an initiative by the club to add more bike paths next year.
Both trails are open during normal park hours from dusk until dawn all week.
