Irving Oil is teaming up with TC Energy to explore potential projects aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
A news release issued last week said the partnership’s initial focus will consider upgrades at Irving Oil’s Saint John refinery.
The projects, according to the release, will focus on “decarbonizing current assets and deploying emerging technologies to reduce overall emissions.”
Irving Oil said the partnership will also look at ways to decarbonize local industry by producing and distributing low-emission hydrogen, coupled with capturing and isolating carbon.
“The partnership will target industry solutions that will lower the emissions in the region to align with carbon reduction goals and enhance the opportunities for future development in Atlantic Canada,” said the release.
Irving Oil said the scope, timelines, and cost estimates will depend on feasibility studies and regulatory processes.
