A Saint John Sea Dogs forward is headed to Canada’s National Junior Team summer development camp.
William Dufour is one of 51 players chosen to attend the Hockey Canada camp near Calgary later this month.
Five goaltenders, 16 defencemen, and 30 forwards will attend the camp at the Seven Chiefs Sportsplex on the Tsuut’ina Nation.
Hockey Canada says the players will participate in a variety of on- and off-ice sessions during the camp.
They will also take part in combined practices and intersquad games with players attending Canada’s National Men’s Under-18 Team summer development camp.
“This is an exciting first step as we begin preparations for the upcoming season and the opportunity to compete at the World Juniors on home ice,” Alan Millar, director of player personnel for the Program of Excellence, said in a news release.
“We are excited about these 51 players, and we look forward to returning to the ice for a highly competitive camp to kick off a new season.”
Dufour was selected by the New York Islanders in the fifth round of the 2020 NHL Draft.
The 19-year-old was traded to Saint John from Drummondville during the pre-draft trade period in late June.
Dufour recorded 17 goals and 29 points in 23 games with Drummondville last season.
