More than 270 live music acts will take to the stage at the Market Square Boardwalk this summer.
The North Market Wharf Cultural Association unveiled details of its Made in New Brunswick Summer Series on Monday.
“We’re really excited to be able to get back to the summertime with the boardwalk experience and as many live acts as we can,” said Corey McGill, president of the association, which is made up of Market Square and its four restaurants.
There will be three to four live performances daily starting Friday and continuing through Labour Day.
Acts will perform from 12:30 to 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and from 1:30 to 9 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays.
McGill said the series will place a focus on New Brunswick musicians, who have been hit hard during the pandemic.
“There were so many musicians and performers here in the area who unfortunately weren’t able to work, so that’s why we shifted our emphasis to have as many different acts on the stage,” he said.
Among the performers lined up are Maestro Fresh Wes, Sorcha’s Gunn, Jarret, and Chelsea Gautreau, Austin Eatmon, Downtown Getdown, Don’t Tell Roy, and Frank James.
The Summer Series will also showcase the Pride SJ Celebrations on Friday, Aug. 6.
In addition to focusing on local talent, McGill said COVID safety will be a top priority, noting that all patios are safely spaced for pandemic safety protocols.
“This is a huge opportunity for locals and other New Brunswickers to safely come out for a great outdoor event; to have some fun while supporting the comeback of our local business community,” he said.
“We’re hoping that this will be the last summer that we have to do it in this format. Hopefully, we can get back to bigger events next year.”
The schedule for the first six weeks will be posted on Market Square’s website and @theboardwalksj on Facebook and Instagram in the days ahead, said McGill.
