Police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash on Route 7 in the Welsford area.
Welsford fire Chief Dave MacCready said the crash happened at the north end of the Welsford bypass around 2 a.m. Monday.
In a Facebook post, the fire department said the call came in as a “single-vehicle accident with persons trapped.”
It said firefighters found a car “heavily damaged and fully involved in fire” when they arrived.
“Crews worked fast and got water and foam on the vehicle, quickly bringing [the fire] under control,” said one of the tweets.
The highway was closed for several hours and reopened just before 7 a.m., said MacCready.

Late Monday afternoon, RCMP issued a news release which confirmed the death on Route 7 in the early hours of Monday.
Mounties believe the vehicle was heading southbound when it struck the centre median and caught fire.
The person who died was the only person in the vehicle.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine the identity of the individual and to find out the cause of death.
