Three people were arrested after Saint John police responded to a weapons call at a pizza shop on Charlotte Street Thursday afternoon.
Sgt. Mike Damon said no one was hurt in the incident which started at about 2:40 p.m.
“We originally got a call to a male party outside Julius Pizza with a weapon, possibly a gun, waving it around and possibly going to shoot somebody. First officers on the scene responded and saw a male running down the street and pursued in the vehicle and chased him to an address here on Charlotte Street,” Damon said.
A large police presence gathered at 154 Charlotte Street near the intersection with Duke Street in uptown Saint John.
The city’s armoured vehicle – Rescue 1 – and K9 units were part of the response.
Damon said Rescue 1 and Emergency Tactical Services were brought in because it was a weapons call.
“We always call them in. They are trained to do these high-risk takedowns. That’s why we called them in and to protect the public as well,” Damon said.
City police asked the public to avoid the stretch of Charlotte Street between Princess Street and Queen Square Park.
The area has since reopened to traffic.
