It may not have occurred exactly how he had planned, but Premier Andrew Furey finally got his results. The Liberal Party claimed 22 of the legislatures 40 seats to win a majority and conclude a prolonged election.
Furey called the election in mid-January with the date set for February 13th. However, just days before the election, the province recorded records highs of COVID-19 cases as they experienced the effects of the variants. After many changes to voter deadlines, the results were finally released and even earlier than some had predicted.
The win was highlighted by members of the Liberal Party claiming seats that had previously been held by opposition leaders. Progressive Conservatives leader Ches Crosbie and NDP leader Alison Coffin were both defeated in their respective ridings.
