An NHL referee has been removed from the league following an incident in Tuesday night’s games.
Tim Peel, native to Hampton, New Brunswick, was caught on a hot microphone discussing a penalty he called against Nashville in their game against Detroit.
Colin Campbell, NHL V.P. of Hockey Operations, said nothing was more important then ‘ensuring the integrity’ of the league.
“Tim Peel’s conduct is in direct contradiction to the adherence to that cornerstone principle that we demand of our officials,” Campbell said in a statement issued through the NHL’s Twitter account.
Peel had been slated to retire later this year, with his final game previously scheduled for April 24.
