RCMP say their officers had to use snowshoes to help rescue a woman lost in the woods in Kingston earlier this week.
Around 7 p.m. Tuesday, police got a call about a woman in mental distress who left her home four hours earlier and had not returned.
Two officers who arrived on the scene — Const. Jonathan Murphy and Const. John Thompson — noticed footprints in deep snow heading into the woods.
“Given the cold weather and time of day, finding the woman quickly was crucial,” Cpl. Mark Ward with the Hampton RCMP said in a news release.
A neighbour offered to lend the officers snowshoes so it would be easier for them to make their way through the snow.
The two officers tracked the footprints for more than three kilometres and located the woman around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, stuck in mud after falling near a creek.
Officers helped the 57-year-old woman walk to a nearby home and she was taken to the hospital to be checked over.
“Thanks to the quick actions taken by our members and the neighbour’s offer to lend them snowshoes, we were able to locate the woman and rescue her safely,” said Ward.
