Saint John will be a little brighter for a lower price come Spring.
The city will be changing nearly one thousand streetlights to LED over the next two months.
The initiative is part of the City of Saint John’s climate change action plan intended to achieve its corporate greenhouse gas emissions target by 2025.
The city of Saint John estimates the upfront cost to be $135,000. The installation will cost $65,000 and materials will cost $70,000.
Carbon dioxide output is expected to lower by 143 tons.
Energy savings from the project is estimated to be close to 58,000 each year.
The project is funded 40 per cent under the Low Carbon Economy Fund and the other $81,000 will be funded through the city’s general Capital program.
