Public Health is reporting seven new cases of COVID-19 Sunday, bringing the weekend total to 17 cases.
Six of the new cases were discovered in the Moncton region, while the other was in the Campbellton health zone. All of the new cases are under investigation.
There are now 41 active cases, almost doubling the 24 cases that were active on Friday.
In a statement issued by the province Sunday afternoon, the chief medical officer of health said the spike in cases this weekend indicates a need for New Brunswickers to ‘fully cooperate’ with Public Health staff and contact tracers.
“Get tested if you are displaying COVID-19 symptoms and stay home if you are not feeling well,” said Dr. Jennifer Russell. “Do not take chances with your health and those of your loved ones and others in the community.”
There have now been 618 confirmed cases of the virus in New Brunswick.
One person is in hospital with the virus, and they are currently in the intensive care unit.
