A Saint John High School student is doing well with her first entrepreneurial adventure.
17-year-old Devyn Ingersoll came up with a holiday project to help local businesses struggling because of the pandemic.
She created a Christmas box with items from local vendors for her course, The Idea Centre, which pairs Saint John High students with mentors at Connexion Works.
Ingersoll said she thought a lot about what she wanted to put in the box.
“I knew I wanted to include Crosby’s Molasses because it’s such a Saint John thing. I also wanted to include a snowman hot chocolate bomb made by Ashley in Musquash,” Ingersoll said.
Ingersoll included a mug featuring the “Love Over It” logo designed by Andrew Holmes.
“I designed that myself, made it myself, got it all shipped to my house and added that to my box. It was such a big thing that happened this year, Black Lives Matter. It had to be included. It’s such a big thing that I stand for,” Ingersoll said.
Ingersoll said the boxes are pretty popular with 300 shares on Facebook and support from Saint John Mayor Don Darling, who bought some himself and shared to social media.
“‘This is awesome. There’s a lot of things in the box for $40.’ People just kept coming back and I love socializing with people. I would get into some good conservations and share my stuff,” Ingersoll said.
The boxes sell for $40, or $50 if they are being delivered.
Ingersoll will be at the City Market selling her Christmas boxes on Tuesday and Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and again on Christmas Eve.
