The city of Saint John will receive more than $3.3 million in COVID-19 relief funds.
A press release issued by city staff said they had been approved for $3,376,725 through the federal government’s Safe Restart Agreement.
Mayor Don Darling thanked the provincial and federal government for their parts in helping the city access the funding.
“The application was prepared early and efficiently by municipal staff, endorsed by Council, and submitted based on specified guidelines. Receiving notification of the payment within days of having submitted the application is extremely helpful to the budgeting, planning and delivery of municipal services,” said Darling through the city’s statement.
City staff expect the funds will be available within the next two weeks.
The money will go into an operating reserve fund dedicated to covering COVID-19 related costs.
