A former Saint John city councillor and longtime funeral home director has died.
Hugh Fitzpatrick passed away Monday at the Saint John Regional Hospital at the age of 77.
Fitzpatrick worked at his family funeral home, Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, for 47 years, according to his obituary. He retired as funeral director in 2012.
The funeral home was taken over by Brenan’s Funeral Home when Fitzpatrick retired. The Fitzpatrick building closed in 2018 and was donated to Outflow Ministry Inc.
Fitzpatrick also served as a member of Common Council in Saint John from 1989 to 1992.
In addition, he was a past president of the Saint John Irish Society and a former chair of the Maritime Provinces Harness Racing Commission.
“Most of all, Hugh adored those he loved and his service, generosity and kindness will be forever remembered by all who knew him,” reads his obituary.
Visitation will take place at Brenan’s Funeral Home on Paradise Row from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday and Friday. His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Waterloo Street.
