Environment Canada says the first significant early season snowfall is expected for parts of New Brunswick on Monday.
Meteorologist Roberta McArthur said a system making its way from southern Ontario and Quebec will arrive this afternoon and into this evening.
McArthur said while central and southern regions of the province should see mostly rain from this storm, the same cannot be said up north.
“Areas from Edmundston and south, especially over higher terrain through Mount Carleton area, could see upwards of five to 10 centimetres fall,” said McArthur.
Southern New Brunswick, including the Saint John, St. Stephen and Moncton regions, can expect about 10 to 20 millimetres of rain.
But McArthur said it could be a whole different story with the next system which is forecast to push through the region later this week.
The remnants of tropical storm Zeta, which is expected to become a hurricane Monday, are expected to combine with another system over the United States, she said.
“At this point in time, it’s still a bit uncertain exactly where the track of that will move through, but it does look like there could be some snowfall possible with that for potentially southern New Brunswick, maybe more so for Nova Scotia,” said McArthur.
Residents are encouraged to keep an eye on the forecast for the latest information.
