New Brunswick Public Health reported just one new case of COVID-19 Sunday, but the province says it is continuing to watch an outbreak just south of the border.
A previously reported outbreak at the Woodland Pulp mill in Baileyville, Maine has now been connected to 12 confirmed cases.
Several employees of the mill reside in New Brunswick.
Dr. Jennifer Russell, the province’s chief medical officer of health, says they are not yet aware of cases that pose a risk to nearby residents in St. Stephen.
“We anticipate that over the coming two days we will receive additional results from the testing being undertaken in Maine,” Russell said.
Public Health is reminding residents to maintain physical distance with others, wear masks in public spaces, avoid contact with vulnerable people, and to frequently wash or sanitize their hands.
The latest case in New Brunswick involves travel outside the Atlantic bubble. The patient is an individual in their twenties in the Saint John region who is self-isolating.
There are now six active cases of COVID-19 in the province.
Nova Scotia had no new cases of the virus to report Saturday, while Newfoundland and Labrador have not yet updated their case numbers this weekend. Both provinces have three known active cases.
Prince Edward Island has also not yet updated numbers on Saturday, there are two active cases on the island.
