Mounties are looking for a suspect they believe was involved a pair of Labour Day robberies at two St. Stephen banks.
Police say the first incident happened at the Scotiabank branch on Milltown Boulevard shortly after 10 a.m. Monday.
Investigators say a woman using the ATM Inside was approached by a man claiming to have a weapon.
“The man left with an undisclosed amount of money,” said police in a news release issued Monday.
At around 2 p.m. Monday, police said a woman at the CIBC on King Street was approached by a man who tried to grab her wallet.
“The woman was assaulted, but did not suffer serious injuries. The man fled on foot with the woman’s purse and wallet,” they said.
Police believe the same person may be responsible for both robberies. He is described as about 5’8″ tall, weighing about 180 pounds, possibly in his late 30s or early 40s.
The man has short, dark hair and a dark complexion, and spoke with a speech impediment. He was wearing dark sweat pants, a dark hooded shirt, and was carrying a bag or backpack over his shoulder.
Anyone with information or who may have witnessed either incident is asked to call St. Stephen RCMP at 506-466-7030.
