Expanding New Brunswick’s travel bubble to the rest of Canada is not on the table yet according to the premier.
Blaine Higgs says he’s concerned about some of the COVID-19 outbreaks which are happening in the rest of the country.
“I mean I’ll continue to talk with my colleagues, but obviously and most importantly with public health about the reasonableness in doing that and the exposure of doing that and the risk reward as part of it,” he says.
Higgs will be sitting down with his Atlantic counterparts soon to discuss the issue.
He also believes the closure of the international border will likely be extended beyond the current date of August 21.
In this COVID-19 era, Higgs says it’s extremely important to use common sense and avoid large gatherings when possible.
Higgs says the province has been trying to open up safely, allow the economy to recover and hopefully return to some kind of normal.
He says an afternoon on the beach with a thousand other people can put all of that in jeopardy if one person has the virus.
Meantime, Green Party leader David Coon says he has doubts about a proposal from Higgs to avoid a fall election.
The premier says it’s disappointing Coon would say that even before a meeting is held.
The Liberals and People’s Alliance have indicated they will support the proposal but Higgs adds he needs all three opposition parties to sign it.
