A new centre will be offering individual counselling, group counselling and other programs to help people with their grief.
Jamie Godfrey, the board chair of the Compassionate Grief Centre, said the registered non-profit was established in February.
Despite difficulties posed by COVID-19 and not yet being registered as a charity, the group just found a location to operate out of.
“It’s trying to the right spot, with the right fit of people who really truly care about what we’re trying to do more so than it was the pandemic,” Godfrey said.
The office will be in the Digital Products Limited building at 53 Clark Road in Rothesay.
Godfrey said the goal is to offer services with no out of pocket costs for the community.
“We’re just going to be located there as of August 1st, trying to get the programs up and going, just trying to get the administration stuff ready and raring to go so we can start offering all the programs or some programming in the fall,” she said.
Some of the virtual and in-person programming includes individual counselling starting towards October or November, with group counselling in September or October.
The next priority is to get furniture and office supplies for the new space.
“Maybe if it wasn’t for the communities’ support we wouldn’t even be able to do this at all. It’s really rare that a nonprofit starts from zero with no government help, no big sponsors anywhere,” she said.
“It’s all because the community believes in us and I don’t know what I’d do without them.”
Programming will address living with dying, dealing with the impending death of a loved one and/or experiencing the pain of grief and loss.
