Four women’s shelters and organizations in the Greater Saint John region are getting extra federal support during the pandemic.
Coverdale Centre for Women, Saint John Domestic Violence Community Action Group, KV Domestic Violence Outreach, and Sophia Recovery Centre will each receive $25,000.
In a news release, Saint John-Rothesay MP Wayne Long says the money will help support the organizations as they provide services to those fleeing gender-based violence.
“COVID-19 has touched all of our lives in Canada, but we must be mindful that facing the greatest risk are the most vulnerable, including women experiencing violence and their children,” said Long.
“These funds ensure swift and decisive action to address gaps in resources and services in Saint John-Rothesay.”
Nearly 1,000 similar organizations have received funding to help them through the pandemic.
