Young entrepreneurs looking for funding in Atlantic Canada just got a small boost from the federal government. Mélanie Joly, Minister of Economic Development and Official Language, has announced that ACOA will invest $5.2-million in youth business opportunities in the region.
“The future of Atlantic Canada’s economy relies on the talent and skills of our young people,” reads a government press release. “From high school students starting small summer enterprises to college and university graduates leading promising start-ups, Atlantic Canadian youth are critical to continued growth and success.”
The money will be given to 21 initiatives delivered through five organizations across Atlantic Canada. The contributions are non-repayable.
In the press release, Minister Joly said that young business owners have been hit by Covid-19 like everyone else and can use financial support right now.
“The energy and ingenuity of young Canadians are critical to the success of our economy,” said Joly. “We know that young entrepreneurs have been hit hard by COVID-19, and we stand with them. Our message to them is clear: we’ve been here for you with immediate measures, we’re here for you now as our economy reopens and we’ll work with you to create more jobs.”
