Education Minister Dominic Cardy recently unveiled his plan for when classes resume in September.
New Brunswick schools will need to abide by a new set of rules when they welcome back students in the fall.
This included smaller class sizes for Kindergarten to Grade 5 and grades 9 through 12.
Superintendent of the Francophone South School District, Monique Boudreau, says one of the biggest challenges will be finding space.
“Right now in some of our schools that are already at full capacity, we’re looking at taking over the gymnasium, the cafeteria and the library. We’ll put up plexiglass and make classrooms in those areas, ” she says.
She says they may even need to utilize community centres and hold lessons outside of school premise.
Boudreau says this means they’ll need to manage human resources differently.
“Substitute teachers could be asked to teach full-time, our specialist teachers that teach music, physical education and art from Kindergarten to grade 8 will be assigned full-time positions in classrooms,” says Boudreau.
She says the district will also be looking to hire about 50 additional teachers, and that could include university students who are currently enrolled in education.
