There will not be any movies showing at the Sussex Drive-In on Friday night.
Instead, they will be hosting a live music and comedy event in partnership with Pocologan Productions.
President Don Monahan says they have room for 250 vehicles and sold half of their tickets within 24 hours.
“We’re definitely pumped for it,” said Monahan. “We wanted to be the first drive-in in Canada to host an event of this type, so we beat everyone to the race.”
Performances will include music by The Divorcees and Jamie Comeau & the Crooked Teeth, and comedy by James Mullinger.
They will perform on a stage in front of the movie screen and their performances will be streamed onto the screen. The audio from the show will be transmitted to cars using the drive-in’s FM transmitter.
Monahan said the hope is to do more of these types of events going forward.
“Next year, in 2021, we want to have at least one music type or comedy event per month so we can bring value to the community, bring value to the campground,” he said.
The gates open at 8 p.m. and the show starts at dusk.
