A fire in an East Saint John apartment building on Monday afternoon sending two people to the hospital and forcing the evacuation of all of its tenants.
The call came after 3 p.m. for crews to respond to the three-story building at 7 Reading Crescent.
Saint John Fire platoon chief Steve Voutour tells CHSJ News tells us more about what happened.
“It appears to have started in a bedroom on the ground floor of 7 Reading Crescent. The occupants of that apartment, a female and a two-year-old, have been sent to the Regional hospital for observation. The female did suffer some burns to her forearms.” Voutour said.
21 firefighters were on scene and Voutour tells us they began releasing resources just after 4 p.m.
More than a dozen have been temporarily displaced temporarily until cleanup can be finished since the fire in one unit caused smoke or water damage to other areas.
The tenants are being provided somewhere to stay for the night in other buildings in the area.
Red Cross volunteers arranged other emergency support like food purchases for tenants in five apartments.
Firefighters helped tenants get clothing and personal items before leaving the building.
