Saint John police are warning the public after discovering a new street drug they seized in a recent investigation.
A news release says the street crime unit seized a pill called Isotonitazene in the shape of a white triangle with rounded corners.
The pill has an “M” punched into one side of the pill and the number “8” on the other and is similar to fentanyl.
According to the release, lab technicians noted its presentation might lead people to believe it is some other drug.
The pill may also present a threat to someone handling it without proper precautions.
After an analysis of the pill, it was determined several doses of Naloxone would be required to counteract the pill.
Police say the findings have been shared among their network.
“By sharing this information, we are making the public and emergency personnel aware of a new drug that can have serious consequences if consumed or exposed to,” said Jim Hennessy, manager of communications and public relations.
“The SJPF continually works to ensure this and other drugs are not readily available through ongoing investigations.”
