Lots of work still needs to be done in regards to recently-announced health-care changes, according to the organizer of last week’s rally in Sackville.
Despite the provincial government’s decision to put overnight ER closures on hold, Kellie Mattatall says it’s just the beginning and residents must stand their ground.
“We were also looking at changes to the inpatient unit, our surgical program and ambulatory care. So we’re very adamant to get a full reversal on all of those points and not just emergency rooms,” she says.
While she is happy to hear that Higgs is willing to hold consultations, the heavy lifting is just beginning to ensure a full reversal.
Mattatal says an online petition against the ER closures has already garnered about 10,000 signatures and a number of paper petitions are also circulating.
They’ll each be delivered to the legislature by Megan Mitton, the Green Party MLA for Memramcook-Tantramar.
Rallies were held in a number of affected communities on Monday, including Sussex.
