Pre-budget consultations are getting underway across the province.
Provincial Finance Minister Ernie Steeves will be meeting with several groups over the next couple of weeks.
“We’re starting the process with businesses, unions, education and hospitals this week. We are meeting with RHA’s and businesses today. Tomorrow it will be unions and social groups,” he said.
He says there is an opportunity for the public to submit their thoughts as well.
“We’ve already had 275 submissions as of this morning or late last night. We want to hear from everyone. Let us know. There are six questions on there and you can fill those out. We would love to hear from you. I can guarantee all of the submissions will be read and will be considered,” he said.
Steeves will also hold a Facebook Live session on February 18th.
“I want the services we have now available for the kids. I’m fond of the saying that we don’t budget for the next election, we budget for the next generation. We have to provide the services in healthcare, education, social services, whatever it is, it has to be there for the future, and that is what we are trying to ensure,” Steeves said.
The 2020-21 budget will be released on March 10.
