A strike by around two dozen workers at the Saint John Airport appears to have been averted.
The Union of Canadian Transportation Employees (UCTE) said a tentative agreement was reached between the union and the airport during the week of Jan. 20.
Chris Bussey, Atlantic regional vice-president, declined to comment on specifics until after this Friday’s ratification vote.
But Bussey said he thinks they were able to get what members were asking for.
During a previous interview, Bussey said the two main issues were wages and pensions.
“If strike action is what’s needed to put pressure on to get that deal, then that’s where we’re going to have to go,” said Bussey in late November.
But union officials were still hopeful a deal could be reached without a strike.
The UCTE represents about 25 workers at the airport who are responsible for runway and building maintenance, firefighting, and administration.
