We are learning more about the New Brunswick soldier found dead in Ontario this week.
Pte. Michal Beaman was last seen in downtown Kingston on the night of Jan. 24. His body was found in the water near the LaSalle Causeway on Wednesday.
Beaman was training to be an army communications and information systems specialist.
His home unit was 37 Signal Regiment in Saint John, but he was taking part in training at the Canadian Forces School of Communications and Electronics in Kingston.
Lt. Col. Alan Doody, commanding officer of 37 Signal Regiment, said Beaman was a valued member who would always volunteer for a task and was at the ready to help his friends and colleagues.
“He was held in high regard by all and always performed to a high standard during training and military exercises. He will be sorely missed by all those who knew him,” said Doody in a statement late Thursday.
“The death of Signaller Beaman is a tragedy which will reverberate with all those whose lives he touched.”
Beaman enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces in December of 2018.
The cause of his death remains under investigation.
