One person has been arrested and three have had their licences suspended after an off-road vehicle enforcement operation.
On January 24th, RCMP stopped around 40 vehicles on trails in the Sackville and Memramcook areas in an effort to decrease impaired driving on public trails.
As a result, a 53-year-old man was arrested for impaired driving, three people had their licences taken away after blowing warning levels on a breath test, and two vehicles were towed.
Several tickets were issued for things like not wearing helmets and operating an off-road vehicle on a road.
An investigation is also ongoing into an ATV operator who refused a breathalyzer test and fled from police.
“Driving an off-road vehicle while impaired by alcohol or drugs is equally as dangerous and illegal as doing so in any other motor vehicle,” said Sgt. Paul Gagné of the Southeast District RCMP in a release.
“Every year we see people seriously injured and killed on our trails as a result of impaired driving or excessive speed – most of which could have been prevented.”
RCMP says it conducts regular enforcement operations like this one throughout the year.
