It may be winter now, but once the snow is gone, Port Saint John will be gearing up for another cruise ship season.
Jim Quinn, president and CEO of Port Saint John, says they are already anticipating a banner year.
“This year we will reach a new all-time high for us with respect to the number of passengers and crew visiting Saint John. On the passenger side, there will be well over 200,000, which will reach a level that has never been seen before so that is exciting news for us,” stated Quinn.
Quinn says the number of vessels that will be making a port of call is on the rise as well in 2020.
“Over 90 vessels are planned right now and, of course, that could go up or down depending on how Mother Nature deals the cards. Sometimes we’re on the winning side and sometimes on the losing side,” he said.
There will also be a lot of days when more than one vessel will be making a stop.
“We are going to have eight triple-ship days and eight double-ship days. As well, there will be 11 ships that come into the port for the first time,” stated Quinn.
Any business owners looking to get more details on the upcoming cruise ship season will have a chance to do so on March 13 at 10:30 a.m. when Port Saint John holds its annual cruise stakeholder information session.
