A candlelight vigil will be held this weekend in Rothesay for a young girl and her mother who died in a murder-suicide.
The Kennebecasis Regional Police Force was called to an apartment building on Sierra Avenue on Monday morning.
Officers found the bodies of a 43-year-old woman and seven-year-old girl inside one of the apartments.
Police identified the woman as Louise Caissie and confirmed the young girl was her daughter.
Officers determined the child was the victim of a homicide and the woman died from a self-inflicted injury.
Sunday night’s vigil is being organized by volunteers from the group Bridge of Hope-Saint John.
They said it will be “a place to come together, pay our respects, pray, leave signs, flowers [and] teddy bears.”
The vigil will begin at 6 p.m. at the end of Sierra Avenue. Participants will walk toward the apartment building where the bodies were found.
Investigators have not released the causes of death but said they do not anticipate laying any charges.
EDITOR’S NOTE: Organizers originally said the vigil is being held for the young girl, but later clarified it is for both the daughter and her mother.
