The tire fire in Minto has finally been put out, according to a new update from New Brunswick EMO.
In a Facebook post, the organization says the fire at the TRACC tire recycling facility has been smothered with sand.
The tires at the facility caught on fire on Friday, Dec. 20th, and burned for a week straight.
NBEMO says the trucking and sand operation has ended, and most of the scrap tire yard is now covered with sand.
However, an air quality advisory remains in place, as does a water quality advisory for those on the industrial park’s water system, including the W.G. Bishop Nursing Home and Queens North Community Health Centre.
NBEMO says while the fire is out, they will still be monitoring and investigating at the site. The public is asked to stay away for the time being.
Officials aren’t sure yet how many tires burned in the fire. The cause of the fire is also unknown.
