Many Canadians have been taking advantage of door-crasher specials which come with Boxing Day sales.
But Boxing Day has lost some of its punch in Canada as a post-Christmas shopping extravaganza for consumers.
Jeff Doucette with Field Agent Canada says the sales may still be there but Black Friday and Cyber Monday have become huge for retailers in this country after spilling over from the U.S.
Doucette says the shopping habits of Canadians have been changing in recent years.
“If you look back twenty years, everybody had gifts under the tree and new Boxing Day specials were going to be the big thing and we’re going to buy some stuff after Christmas. I think the Canadian mentality has really shifted to be very similar to the American one,” he notes.
Doucette adds Canadians may find deals on Black Friday and Cyber Monday which become gifts and they may not worry as much about shopping after Christmas.
