A Moncton woman is getting the chance to show off her dancing, acting and singing skills on stage for Disney Tokyo.
Robyn Esson has graced the stage in Greater Moncton, as a performer, but on January 5th, she is off to Tokyo.
She says this all started while she was working at a camp in Upstate New York.
She learned about an dance audition call for Disney Tokyo, and she did what every dancer dreams of.
“I went to the open call, thinking it would be fun. I thought I would be leaving in an hour and to continue touring the city. Six hours later, I was basically offered a contract for a new show at Disney Tokyo,” she said.
She received the call a few months later with confirmation and details of the 15 month contract.
This will be her first real professional dance contract, and she says the opportunity to do this is amazing.
“It is really a good opportunity to learn the industry, perfect my dance skills and performance skills and meet some people along with way, and hone those skills I can use for auditions going forward. This could open doors to meeting others who might be producing shows in other areas, whether it be Broadway of other Disney shows,” said Esson.
The show opens on April 15th.
“I am going over with a few dancers to create the show, and then we have a couple more joining us in February,” she said.
She believes she is one of three Canadians to be featured in the new Disney Tokyo show, but she thinks she is the only one from the East Coast.
Esson is no stranger to the stage in Greater Moncton.
She currently has a role in the production of Elf at the Riverview Arts centre, and has also performed on the Capitol Theatre stage, amongst others.
