Thursday’s resignation in the House of Commons by Conservative leader Andrew Scheer was not overly shocking, according to John Williamson.
The Conservative MP for the riding of New Brunswick Southwest says he got an inkling of Scheer’s plan in conversations he had with the leader since the election.
“I knew he wanted to do what was best for family, the Conservative party and the country, so I was surprised but not stunned and I certainly understand the decision that he took [Thursday],” stated Williamson.
Williamson says Scheer will stay on as interim leader until the party gets the ball rolling for a leadership convention.
“[Scheer] made the right decision because it was the right decision for him and his family, but now the Conservative party will have to get organized. We’re ready to form the next government after the next federal election,” he said.
