This is the weekend to change your clocks back one hour at 2 a.m. Sunday and the provincial fire marshal has a message for all New Brunswickers.
Michael Lewis says changing your clocks should also remind you to do something else.
“Check the batteries and the functionality in your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms twice a year. We find that if it coincides with the time change, it is a good reminder for people, if you are changing your clocks you should be changing your batteries as well,” stated Lewis.
Lewis says it is also very important to keep an eye on how old the detector might be in your home.
“The expiration date will be printed on any of your alarms and typically it says replace by ‘x’ year so just make sure you check those out as well,” Lewis said.
Lewis says you should also be testing your alarms and detectors at least once a month.
“All smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors have a test button on them. Test it to make sure it’s loud, make sure you can hear it throughout the house or apartment.”
