A New Brunswick RCMP officer is being remembered as a family man who was passionate about policing.
Staff Sgt. Bruce Alexander Reid, who hails from Saint John, N.B., passed away last Friday.
“Bruce’s passion was for his family and policing,” his obituary read.
“His contagious smile was even brighter when spending time with his granddaughter … and he was thrilled to be expecting another grandchild.”
During his 38-year policing career, Reid spent five years with the Saint John Police Force and 33 years with the RCMP.
He policed several communities across Canada and New Brunswick, including Sussex, Fredericton and Doaktown.
“Bruce was dedicated to his career in policing but always looked forward most to his annual time spent cruising in the Caribbean with [his wife] Lori,” said his obituary.
Reid also had a passion for sports and served as captain on most of his teams. He combined his love of sports and policing when he had the chance to police at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
His family said he had a great sense of humour and loved to joke around, but was also compassionate, sensitive, and had a heart full of love and forgiveness.
“Though we miss him immensely, we know he is now at peace.”
Reid leaves behind his wife, two children, three step-children, one grandchild, four step-grandchildren, three siblings, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at the Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home in Quispamsis from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. A celebration of life will take place at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Rothesay at 11 a.m. Wednesday.
