Back by popular demand — another drag bingo and show will take place in St. Stephen this weekend.
Five drag performers from Fredericton will head to Bordertown for Saturday evening’s show at the Garcelon Civic Centre.
Sylvain Pitre, the event planner, said there will be five rounds of bingo and more than a dozen performances by the four drag queens and one drag king.
“We have lots of individual numbers — most of them are Halloween-themed — we’re doing a few group numbers and have a couple of surprises in there,” said Pitre.
The four drag queens partnered with Charlotte County Pride to host their first St. Stephen show in June.
It was a sellout event, which Pitre said came as a bit of a shock to the performers.
“With small towns, you never know what to expect when you’re bringing something a little bit different from a larger city,” he said.
But Pitre said the reception they received when they arrived was unbelievable.
“Everybody had such a good time, they were cheering and screaming for the performers all night long,” he said. “At the end, everybody wanted to take pictures of the performers. It was like a night on the red carpet.”
“Afterwards, everybody was saying how much of an impact we’ve made in the community, how people were speaking more positively about LGBT people, and how much that they really appreciated us coming to their small town.”
Pitre expects they will also have a sellout crowd at Saturday’s show, which takes place from 7 to 10 p.m.
“It’s pretty age-friendly so anybody can come. You can bring kids, you can bring your grandma. We don’t get too crazy on stage, but it’s still a lot of fun and a lot of laughs definitely.”
Tickets are on sale at Something’s Brewing Café and High Tides Music in St. Stephen, at OK Tire in Oak Bay, and online.
