Atlantic Canadians are being warned about an online payday loans scam.
The Better Business Bureau says Payday King claims to operate out of Nova Scotia but does not have a license.
The consumer protection agency has tried several times to contact Payday King, but has not received a response.
The BBB says companies must hold a permit to operate in Atlantic Canada and display that permit on their website.
Another payday lender, Cash One, claims to operate out of the same mailbox as Payday King and in some cases, had identical text on its websites.
The BBB is warning borrowers to check company’s profile with them, never pay upfront fees, limit what you borrow, read the fine print and hold on to your documentation.
