If you watch YouTube, chances are you’ve seen a few famous people doing carpool karaoke.
The teachers at Riverview High School are following their lead.
Ms. Melanie Mealey teamed up with Mr. Armand Doucet — also known as Mr. D — to show the teachers can have a little bit of fun too.
They planned to carpool to work together this year.
“His birthday was just before we were about to start up and I put a screenshot of James Corden and Elton John doing their carpool karaoke. He totally seized it, and we now have some clips of us singing our favourite songs in the front seat and doing it very loudly,” Mealey says.
From there, they brainstormed to figure out a way to welcome the students back to class, Some pretty crazy ideas coming through there,” Mr. D says.
Each month, a carpool karaoke video will be featured on the school’s Facebook page.
“Basically we have over 60 per cent of the staff that have jumped on board every month. We will be picking a new song each month, and sometimes they are with a theme for the month.”
Mealey gave us a hint at what to expect for October.
“It’s going be a 90s jam, with someone in a bumblebee costume.”
Safety is important to these teachers during carpool karaoke, and a dashcam is being used for all of the videos. The portion of the video where Doucet is on the phone was shot in an empty parking lot.
