The federal government has unveiled what a percentage of the revenue collected from the carbon tax will be used for.
Canadian Environment Minister Catherine McKenna says all funds must be generated back into its respective province.
Ninety per cent of the revenue will be going back to residents in the form of a climate incentive. McKenna announced Tuesday how the remaining 10 per cent will be invested.
“We will be providing $60 million for energy-efficiency retrofits to schools in Ontario, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and New Brunswick,” McKenna says.
$2 million will go to New Brunswick schools with the intention of retrofits that will make them more energy-efficient.
Over 6,000 schools in Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and New Brunswick will be eligible for the money.
Ontario will receive $41 million, Saskatchewan will get $12 million, while Manitoba will receive $5 million.
